Mount Olympus Transfer | SKG Airport to Olympus Greece

Olympus is about an hour's drive south of the airport. Most people stay in Litochoro before heading up. We'll get you there from SKG, and we won't overcharge.

About Olympus

The Route

From SKG you're looking at about 80-100 kilometres. Head south on the highway through Pieria, then inland as you approach the mountain. Takes roughly an hour to Litochoro, 90 minutes if you're heading all the way to Prionia.

We can drop you in Litochoro (the main town), at Prionia (where most summiteers start), at Dion (the archaeological site), or wherever else makes sense for your plans.

How We Work

Where You'll Go

Litochoro: This is where you'll probably stay. It's got decent hotels, tavernas, a few shops selling hiking kit if you forgot something. The main square's pleasant in the evening. Most hikers spend a night here before heading up.

Dion: Ruins of an ancient city at the base of the mountain. If you've got a few hours and you're interested in archaeology, it's worth the visit. Temples, mosaics, the whole thing.

Prionia: The actual trailhead where most people start. There's a refuge station here and parking. Only an hour further than Litochoro if that's where you want to begin your hike.

What You Can Do

Summit: If you're going for Mytikas, start early from Prionia. It's a full day, maybe 8-10 hours up and down. Not technically hard, just long. You need to be fit and acclimatised.

Day Hikes: Enipeas Gorge is beautiful. Plenty of other shorter routes that don't go all the way to the top. Most people can do these without training.

Wildlife if you're lucky — goats, birds, the occasional chamois. The plants up there are unique to this mountain.

When to Go

Summer: June through September. Trails are clear, refuges are open, weather's stable. Also the busiest. Weekend bookings fill up.

Spring: April and May. Wildflowers, waterfalls from snowmelt, fewer people. But high trails might still have snow on them. Lower routes are brilliant.

Autumn: October and November. Cool, pleasant, quiet. Start planning early in the season though — late autumn, snow comes back to higher ground.

The Cars

Sedan: Just you, maybe one or two others. Mercedes. Boot space for gear.

Van: Up to eight people. More room if you've got a lot of kit for a multi-day trip.

Minibus for the bigger groups.

Booking

Tell us your flight, where you want to go, how many of you there are, and how much gear you're bringing. We'll give you a price and you're booked.

If you're summiting, get on the road early from the airport. Prionia start at dawn makes sense. We can do that.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Mount Olympus from Thessaloniki Airport?

About 80 to 100 kilometres. An hour to Litochoro, maybe 90 minutes if you're heading to Prionia. Depends on traffic too.

Can you climb Mount Olympus in one day?

Yes, if you're fit. Eight to ten hours from Prionia to the summit and back. Start early. Most people prefer a night at one of the mountain refuges though — less of a rush, better experience.

What's the best time of year to visit Mount Olympus?

June through September is safest — trails are clear, refuges are open. April and May are lovely, wildflowers everywhere, but you might hit snow higher up. Autumn's quiet and pleasant, but start early in the season before the snow comes back.

Do I need a guide for Mount Olympus?

For day hikes, no. For the summit, plenty of people do it alone. But a good guide makes it better — they know the mountain, the routes, the mythology. Up to you.

What should I bring for Mount Olympus hiking?

Proper hiking boots. Layers — mountain weather changes fast. Water, food, sun cream, a basic first aid kit. A map or GPS. For the summit, you might want trekking poles and maybe a headlamp if you're starting before sunrise.
